Lin-Manuel Miranda requested green for Hamilton because it represents money and his position as the first Secretary of the Treasury. The green statesman’s coat becomes especially prominent during Act Two.
Hamilton progresses from modest clothing to a blue Revolutionary War uniform and then an elegant green statesman’s suit. His costumes gradually become darker as he ages, culminating in the black coat worn for the final duel.
Wear a navy colonial officer’s coat with gold trim over a white ruffled shirt, beige breeches and tall black boots. Add a dark tied-back wig, leather belt and safe prop sword to recreate Hamilton’s Revolutionary War appearance.
Use a long dark-brown or black wig tied into a low ponytail. Unlike a traditional Founding Father costume, the Broadway version does not require a white powdered wig. A small goatee helps recreate Lin-Manuel Miranda’s original Hamilton look.
