ABOUT RIFF RAFF:
Riff Raff is a pivotal character in The Rocky Horror Show, portrayed by Richard O’Brien. He serves as the hunchbacked handyman and live-in butler of Dr. Frank-N-Furter, embodying a blend of servitude and cunning. Mysterious and sardonic, Riff Raff is deeply loyal to his sister Magenta and harbors a hidden agenda against Frank.
1. JACKET – Begin your Riff Raff cosplay with a black slim-fit suit jacket or tuxedo jacket with coattails.
2. PANTS – A pair of regular dress pants would be perfectly suitable but we felt these gothic-style trousers matched the rest of our look particularly well.
3. SHIRT – A light khaki lace-up shirt is a great option but you may want to cut the collar lower to make it look more like Riff Raffs.
4. GLOVES – Either a pair of fingerless fishnet gloves or a similarly-style pair of leather gloves is a must.
5. WIG – If you don’t feel like doing permanent damage to your hair and street-cred, then this George Washington-style wig is a great alternative.
6. SPATS – 1920s-style spats are worn over your shoes to add an extra touch of glitz and glammer.
7. FOOTWEAR – Finally, these smart black loafers are perfectly in keeping with the essence of this Riff Raff costume idea.

Combine a black suit or tailcoat jacket with dark trousers and a pale, loosely styled shirt. Add long, thin pale hair, fingerless gloves and dark shoes to recreate the butler-inspired outfit shown here. White spats are an optional finishing detail, while the dark formal clothing and distinctive hair establish the character.
A black jacket and ordinary dark trousers provide a useful base, even without a matching tailcoat. Wear a pale shirt with a relaxed neckline underneath and add fingerless gloves for texture. If you want a worn finish, alter only clothing you are happy to keep as part of the costume.
Look for a wig with long, thin pale-blond or grayish hair and a receding-hairline effect. Keep the strands hanging beside the face rather than adding full, polished curls. A simplified pale wig can still work with the dark suit, so you do not need to alter your own hair permanently.
Use Riff Raff’s black suit and pale hair alongside Magenta‘s black maid-style dress, white apron and full reddish curls. Their contrasting hairstyles make the pair recognizable despite sharing black-and-white clothing. Columbia or Frank-N-Furter can join a larger Rocky Horror group, adding brighter colors and a different stage-inspired silhouette.
White spats add contrast over dark shoes in the interpretation featured here, but they are optional. Plain black loafers or dress shoes can finish the outfit on their own. If you add spats, choose removable covers that fit your existing shoes comfortably rather than replacing footwear solely for the costume.
Reuse a dark jacket, trousers and shoes, then focus spending on a suitable wig and pale shirt if those are missing. Inexpensive fingerless gloves add texture without much cost. An exact tailcoat and decorative spats can be later upgrades once the recognizable hair and dark formal silhouette are in place.
