ABOUT BELLATRIX LESTRANGE:
Bellatrix (played by Helena Bonham Carter) was born into the pure-blood Black wizarding family. Her cousin is Sirius Black and Narcissa Malfoy and Andromeda Tonks are her sisters. She is also married to Rodolphus Lestrange, a fellow Death Eater.
As one of Lord Voledmort’s most fanatical followers, as well as a hugely powerful witch in her own rights, Bellatrix strikes fear into her adversaries. She is renowned for her skilled and ferocious dueling style that could quickly overpower even the most adept wizards.
1. DRESS – The first thing you will need for is a suitably gothic black dress. We recommend a steampunk or Victorian-inspired dress complete with lacey accents and a ruffled skirt.
2. CORSET – Next, you will need a black corset. We recommend taking some time here to find the perfect one for you. We went for a plain satin corset but there are also leather and patterned options available that work just as well with this outfit.
3. GLOVES – Add a pair of fingerless black and elbow-length gloves to continue the gothic style of Bellatrix’s outfit.
4. NECKLACE – Bellatrix wears a raven skull pendant on a simple black chain. There are plenty of these accessories available online so just choose your favorite!
5. BOOTS – We found that chunky black boots with a low heel worked best for our costume.
6. WAND – The wand Bellatrix uses throughout the Harry Potter movies is one of the more recognizable and unique ones out there. Lightly curved with and extended hilt, we highly recommend purchasing a quality replica for your own outfit.
7. TATTOO – Let your fellow Death Eaters know you are one of them with a temporary tattoo of the twisted snake devouring a human skull. Don’t worry, it will wash off!
8. WIG – Finally, a curly brown wig with white streaks rounds off this dark and enigmatic look.
Bellatrix Lestrange is a super popular DIY costume idea for Harry Potter fans. Instantly recognizable as one of the darker aspects of J.K. Rowling’s wizarding universe, Bellatrix’s outfit is imbued with gothic and dark energy.
Despite looking intricately detailed, this is actually a relatively easy outfit to make at home. As long as you get the basics right – the black dress and corset – the remaining accessories are really just the icing on the cake.

Start with a black lace or gothic dress, then add a black corset, fingerless gloves and sturdy boots. The layered textures give the outfit its worn, dramatic character. A skull pendant and curved wand provide more specific Bellatrix details than a plain black robe alone.
Use a curly dark wig or create loose, uneven curls in your own hair. Add volume around the crown and leave a few strands loose around the face. The aim is a wild, unpolished shape; the curls do not need to match neatly.
Her wand has a noticeably curved shape that sets it apart from a straight costume wand. A lightweight replica is a useful finishing accessory, especially for photos. If you are keeping costs down, a plain dark wand still works with the dress, curls and jewelry.
Yes. A fitted black dress with a wide belt can suggest the same defined waist. Choose lace sleeves, layered fabric or a textured skirt for added detail. You can also wear an existing black top and maxi skirt together beneath the belt.
Use black clothing as the shared base, then let each person choose different masks, robes or character details. Bellatrix stands out through her curls and curved wand. A Nagini-inspired costume adds a different silhouette to the same villain theme.
Place a temporary Dark Mark on the inner left forearm if you want that Death Eater detail. Leave the area visible by adjusting the sleeve or choosing shorter gloves. The tattoo is optional; the hairstyle, black outfit and wand can carry the costume without it.
